So when it came to teaching him about the bible, I was a bit overwhelmed. I never had two minutes peace to sit and plan anything, and so I felt like I was in danger of leaving it all to the Sunday school teachers and never really spending the time that I should be teaching him about God. In my exhausted mum state, I took the decision to ask for money for his fourth birthday rather than more toys.
With that money, I was able to buy Sam a one year subscription to the Treasure Box People.
And it was a game changer!
Every month Sam is so excited when the box drops through the letter box (and I am quietly relieved that we have a whole morning’s worth of activities that I haven’t had to plan or prepare!!). And he can now tell me the lessons he has learnt from the bible stories each month. He took great pleasure in telling me why we should build on rocks and not sand after we learnt the story of the wise and foolish builder, and I can now constantly remind him not to be the lazy son who doesn’t keep his word when he won’t sweep up after himself!
But the change that fills my heart with joy the most is his new prayer journal. Now, to fill you in a little, back in January my prayer and hope for the year was to teach Sam about prayer, and that he would want to talk to God more. Fast forward to June, and included our treasure box was a small notebook, to be used as a prayer journal. And every night since then, we have filled in a thank you, sorry and please prayer in Sam’s prayer journal. He loves to tell me all the amazing things he is thankful for and to ask God when he needs help. He is even starting to understand when he needs to say sorry for things. My mother’s prayer from all those months ago is starting to be answered, all because of that treasure box.
I am so thankful for The Treasure Box People and the time and effort they put into planning these amazing activities. I know that our lives are changed because of them, and I look forward to the next one dropping through my door. So why not ask for money this Christmas instead of toys, and get your child the gift of a subscription – it might completely change your 2018…
