“Jonny, have you tidied your room, yet?”
“Yes, Mum, I will feed the cat.”
“Sophie, how many times have I asked you to pick up your shoes?”
It makes this story easy to access for all our families, as we explore Jesus’ parable together; but whilst chore charts are a helpful starting point, it is important that we do not limit the power of this story to ‘so help around the house more,’ in a school assembly-esque message.
Jesus’ parables were told to challenge the listeners and to cut straight to the heart of the message.
This particular story carries a powerful reminder that it is not our place to judge who honours and serves God, and challenges us to think about our own faithfulness to the God we serve. One of the great treasures of this parable is the wonderful truth that God invites each of us to get involved in His work.
